Boston ReStore is a non-profit organization that collects donations of office furniture from businesses in the Boston area and then sells these donated pieces to non-profit groups, schools, government agencies, and lower-income individuals. The goal of this project is to help those in need furnish their establishments while keeping perfectly good, used furniture out of landfills.
Located in the Four Corners neighborhood in Dorchester, the Boston ReStore warehouse has 13,500 square feet of space to keep its donated items and is currently going through a large renovation to help better utilize this large space. This past weekend I was able to spend some time helping clean and organize the ReStore’s Dorchester warehouse and was able to see first hand the great potential and need for this service in our area. Numerous individuals stopped in without previous knowledge of the ReStore location, and all were sincerely excited by the idea of having this nonprofit in their community.
Particularly in these economic times, the Boston ReStore’s goals are something that we should all be able to support. If you or anyone you know is interested in purchasing goods, donating furniture, or volunteering with the Boston Restore, please have them contact the (very friendly) staff here.
