Boston continues to earn its growing stature as a leader among greening cities, and Mayor Menino is in the vanguard. True to his longstanding and impressive commitment to building a sustainable Boston, Mayor Menino issued a call this week for nominations of concerned citizens to the to-be-erected Community Advisory Committee on Climate Action.
The call for nominations followed close on the heels of the mayor’s creation of the Boston Climate Action Leadership Committee, a 22-member group tasked with reviewing and making recommendations on the City’s Climate Action Plan.
According to a press release issued June 8, 2009 by the Mayor’s Office, Menino’s goal in creating the new community advisory committee is to ensure broad representation of citizen and business concerns as the Leadership Committee undertakes its review.
Who qualifies to be nominated? Maybe you or someone you know! Act quickly, however, as nominations are due by June 26, 2009. Here are the criteria published in the release:
Community Advisory Committee members are not expected to have scientific or technical expertise. However, they should live in Boston, be active in the community, be concerned about climate change, and have:
- A willingness to make a year-long commitment involving about 20–40 hours of work, including meetings and follow-up activities;
- A willingness and ability to work well in a diverse team;
- An ability to consider ideas and strategies objectively, to think beyond one’s own experience, to be an active listener, and to generate creative ideas and solutions; and
- An appetite for healthy debate and an eagerness to be part of a dynamic process.
Residents can nominate themselves or others and obtain additional information at www.cityofboston.gov/climate/committee.asp or contact Carl Spector, Carl.Spector@cityofboston.gov, 617-635-3850.
